Bio Victor

victor bio interior 1000Victor was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain in 1991 to a family of musicians. At the age of 8 he began studying in the Conservatory of Music of that city with his teachers, Ximo Martínez and Lincoln Barceló. In his studies, Victor graduated with the Highest Honors and earned his profesional degree in percussion. Victor has completed numerous international courses with percussionists like: Katarzyna Mycka, Jean Geoffroy, Peter Sadlo, Pedro Carneiro, Juanjo Guillem, Sisco Aparicio and others, as well as master classes with Steven Schick and Gary Burton. Victor is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Performance with Chirstian Dierstein at the Musik Akademie der Stadt Basel. In addition to his professional studies, Victor attends the Academy NEXEduet.

 

Victor’s musical work focuses on contemporary music, repertoire development and the search for new forms of expression. These activities have led him to work with composers such as Georges Apperghis, Mathias Spalinger, Michael Maierhof, Daniel Ott, Jürg Frey, Voro Garcia, Jose Maria Cue and many young composers. He has recorded percussion for over thirty movies and performed in various contemporary music festivals, including Wittener Tage für Neue Musik (2011) für Neue Musik Darmstadt Ferienkurs (2012), Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival (2012), Percusione Temporanea (2012 ), IMPULS Festival (2013).

 

Victor spends his time  studying free improvisation and more abstract musical discourse, performing many concerts in collaboration with artists from other disciplines, concentrating on live-electronics. An academic example of Victor’s studies in improvisation are the classes with guitarist and improviser Fred Frith .

 

The stages on which he has performed include the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, KUG Graz, Caixa Forum de Mallorca, Gare du Nord, Auditorium of the Conservatory of Seville, Stadtcasino Basel, Magna Vitoria Conservatory Hall, KKL Luzern, Aula Magna F. Mapfre Guanarteme, Ontinyent Multipurpose Room and Auditorium of the University of Las Palmas.

 

In the orchestral field, Victor has been a member of the Youth Orchestra of Gran Canaria and an instrumentalist in the National Youth Orchestra of Spain, and has collaborated with the Lucerne Orchestra, Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria, Las Palmas Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Diagonal.
Victor Barceló has recorded for Deutsche Grammophon. Actually is teacher at the Conservatorie of Canarias.
