Bio Roberto

Heterodox percussionist interested in avant-garde art, new forms of communication as well as their implementation in the sound-musical creation of our time.


Based in Basel (Switzerland), where he studied with Christian Dierstein as well as with the improviser Fred Frith. He currently follows the advices of Håkon Stene.


He has participated in several European festivals such as IMPULS (Graz), Donaueschingen or Darmstadt. He is currently part of the program “Young Artists Promises” of the ULYSSES Program (IRCAM).


His main projects are reConvert, with the percussionist Lorenzo Colombo, or the recent y-band, where he proposes an aesthetic and conceptual review of the current panorama of musical creation. He is also the artistic co-director of the nomadic music platform CONTAINER.


It is really important the close relationship and work with composers for the development of new repertoire. Some of his current and upcoming collaborations include Simon Steen-Andersen, Michael Maierhof, Jorge Sánchez-Chiong, Luciano Azzigotti, Fernando Manassero, Ricardo Eizirik, Andreas Frank and Manuel Rodríguez-Valenzuela. This work is part of a project called [expandING_percussion], in which concepts such as post-percussion, multi-instrumentalist or video-creation; dialogue naturally. This project was awarded with the INJUVE Youth Creation Award 2017.


At the same time Roberto has received several distinctions from the Certamen Intercentros Melónamo, the BOG Musik-Stiftung or the Palau de la Música Catalana.


He has collaborated with various ensembles such as Reina Sofía Sinfonietta, Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, Ensemble Recherche, Collegium Novum Zürich, Basel Sinfonietta or Ensemble Lemniscate.


Since the academic year 2018-19 he has been giving workshops for composers and instrumentalists at the Liceu Conservatoire of Barcelona.
